I've been reading Anathem by Neal Stephenson.
Or I'm trying to anyways. I say "trying" because its a difficult book filled with wacky-and-somewhat-pretentious jargon littered in every other sentence.
Of course it has definitions scattered throughout the book , as well as a glossary of terms and such , but I'm still like "wtf?" on most paragraphs and have to shift back through the glossary all over again. Granted I am still on the first chapter , but in the time it's taken me to read this one chapter , I've usually read at least a third of any other book. Of course I realize that pretentious stuff like this delights in intentionally confusing the reader, but I'd rather just have my story and be done with it. Neal Stephenson , btw , is best known for the novel Snow Crash , which is considered one of the greatest science fiction novels of all time. Now I've not read Snow Crash , but if its anything like Anathem is turning out to be , I might just write Neal Stephenson off as one of those totally overrated speculative fiction writers.
Dream - Last night I had a dream that I found a little hamster family in a hole ( not that hole , you pervs) in my yard and rescued them from my dog. I put them in my little vase on my shelf and they lived there. The mama hamster liked talking to me. Then one day I went to sleep and woke up with all these cats and dogs in my room. Of course all the baby hamsters were missing . The mama hamster just sat there looking traumatized while I searched for her missing children. I threw all the dogs and cats ( which included a large german shepard that tried to bite me , and many many black cats ) out of my bedroom , but alas , the poor babies were never found.
Another dream I had last night involved the Mexican version of NASA. I dreamed that the administration covered up the death of one of their astronauts , who went up in a shuttle and came back down confused and babbling crazy stuff. He later died. I went to the office of the organization and demanded an answer for his death. The receptionist (who I had to ask if she spoke english first) told me that indeed there was a mysterious death. It was theorized that aliens took over the astronauts death by sucking out his brain. I later found out that the pressure of the space shuttle just killed his brain.
In other news - I've started a (yet another) project. Over at conceptart.org they have a a thing called Character of the Week , or CHOW. Even though these contests are long over , the subjects are interesting and I want to draw them all.
I still ahvent submitted my homework for 2YN , but I will. Eventually.
Oh yeah! and I got the most adorable watch!. Like anyone needs watches these days with cell phones and everything , but it had a purple cherries charm on it and as everyone knows, I'm a sucker for teh kawaii.
