Here are some particularly annoying things about writing a novel .
1. Ideas already taken.
For my fantasy novel I created the concept of a stone that nullifies the force of magic. I called it a nullstone. But much to my dismay , after googling the term nullstone , I found that there is an object in Dungeons & Dragons called that. Wonderful.
2.People who only want Tolkien knock-offs
There are lots of people reviewing fantasy novels annoyed that the book they read was not as good as Tolkien . No matter what you write it does not interest them because it is not Tolkien , Star Wars , etc. And if it don't fit the general formula of a Tolkien , Star Wars knock off they are pissed. So many people are going to be disappointed with my work then , nothing against George Lucas or Tolkien or anything.
3. Wondering if I'm being influenced by the wrong things.
During my adolescence , I never read books. I remember wanting desperately to be a writer , but never did I indulge in 800-page fantasy novels till I was around 16 or 17 years old. Instead , I played video game RPGs. Far, far, too many of them . I often imagine my characters shooting a gun and doing 597 damage to their opponent. Maybe I should've been a game designer.
4.I love my characters far too much and have too many of them.
I love my characters. I'm like a proud momma to them . I have a hard time deciding which characters should be paid the most attention to . Sometimes I want to write an epic novel for each one. Alas, there are some characters who have to fill the role of the sidekick.
