Here are some quotes about labels:

"Labels are for can, not people." - Anthony Rapp

“A name is a label, and as soon as there is a label, the ideas disappear and out comes label-worship and label-bashing, and instead of living by a theme of ideas, people begin dying for labels... and the last thing the world needs is another religion.” - Richard Bach

“Don't rely too much on labels, for too often they are fables” - Charles Spurgeon

“Labels are for filing. Labels are for clothing. Labels are not for people.” - Martina Navratilova

“They stick you with those names, those labels -- ‘rebel’ or whatever; whatever they like to use. Because they need a label; they need a name. They need something to put the price tag on the back of.” - Johnny Depp

Here is my own two cents on labels.

Society , especially consumerist society is heavily reliant on labels.  People want to buy things to make them a certain kind of person.
Advertisers know this and use it very much. People who differ from the mainstream also seek out labels in order to define themselves. Punk , goth , emo etc  are all labels and are filled with heavily stereotyped behavior. People judge others often by only one aspect of their personality before getting to know them , in effect labeling them.

I think labels are moronic . This is one thing I see as being a great revelation to me.  I am just a person with various traits. But I am not those traits and those traits aren't the only traits I have.

As a person we are a sum of our traits.

Humanity would be better off if we all realized this.

I hate the word emo . Not because I actually hate what the word is describing , but because I hate the fact that it has been used to describe almost  every fucking thing . The word seems to have several different meanings but the most popular meaning is a teenager who dyes their hair , cuts themselves , whines a lot and listens to a certain kind of depressing music.
